Hi, I’m Pat Spencer. Finding the right therapist can be challenging. Who would be a good match? Who has the balance of supporting you and challenging you when needed? Who do you trust? Perhaps I can be that right match. I have experience in the military and Veterans communities having grown up in a military family and having worked with a military and Veteran peer support program. Additionally, I have professional and lived experience in the LGBTQIA+ community and I believe gender diversity is normal and not a mental illness. I have experience working with adults and children from cultures across the world including the two years I spent living in Tunisia as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I have worked with a variety of concerns including trauma, depression, anxiety, and work/school/sports performance. I have a calm, friendly, interactive, supportive style while focusing on the healing power of a therapeutic relationship and I recognize the importance of the mind-body connection.
I work with individuals ages 12 and older in various stages of their relationship. I have a certificate in trauma studies, am EMDR trained through EMDRIA. I am certified Imago Relationship therapist. I am currently seeing clients in my office and via telehealth.
If you are interested in clinical supervision, I am a certified clinical supervisor in New Jersey and teach clinical supervision courses. I am interested in the growth of fellow social workers. As a social worker for over 20 years I have worked in a variety of settings including community based mental health and emergency psychiatric services, with both children and adults. I have taught in the Rutgers University School of Social Work, and have taught continuing education courses. I have also volunteered as a board member for a local non-profit organization. I am also actively involved in the New Jersey chapter of NASW. I served on the board of directors as the secretary and have twice served as a delegate in the national NASW delegate assembly.
Additionally, I provide online mental coaching nationwide for female identifying and LGBTQIA+ cyclists and endurance athletes. For more information please see Getting Your Mind In Gear.
